Haunted

It’s May. Hooray! Let’s go outside and play.

No, wait! Read this first before you all rush off to the slides!

I could have waited until the 4th to set up a new post, but I’m not much of a Star Wars fan. In fact, as I get older, I find it increasingly sillier and sillier and more challenging to be enthusiastic about. (Apologies to anyone reading this while wearing a t-shirt or socks of an infanticidal overlord who works for a genocidally corrupt government and thinks that THAT’S ALL O.K. #thealderaanmillion #breaktheirsilence.) But it’s just not for me anymore, and not because it’s not good. It is. It still works. Kids dig it. Ask one right now, I’ll wait, but before you do, I’ll just say that I’ve come to view aging out of something as a good thing. I don’t want to jump on the Miriam Margolyes bandwagon too heavily, but I can see what she means regarding Harry Potter: yes, the things I grew up with are fun, but I don’t need to hang onto them for too long. Like, I still love the things I love, but I don’t need to love them TOO hard. I can let them go and move on* and discover new things that might be slightly similar or have cleverly ripped that first thing off, just enough to fool me into enjoying something “new” all over again. But I don’t need to find out why a character, who was a villain in very black and white children’s fantasy terms, became evil. Sometimes, evil just exists. But I get it. They have mugs and bedsheets and activity books to sell. Carry on.**

I may or may not have seen Wicked last month. I clearly have notes. And questions.

So many questions.

Anyway, I’ve added a new book to the library (https://obakebooks.com/the-library/). I’ve also updated my portfolio (https://leighryan2000.wixsite.com/citizensofgirth), and I’m currently looking for a new job since the collapse of my creative studio last December due to some stupid things my business partner possibly did online and who definitely got arrested and is now facing criminal charges because of said stupid things.

I may or may not have mentioned that yet. Apologies if that was sudden. But it’s now my reality and public record, so why hide.

It was big sure, and I’m still dealing with it daily, but it gets easier daily. Time is good in that regard. Even though its ultimate goal IS to destroy you for no apparent reason. Huh. Someone needs to write a fun musical about that. It’d be a multi-award-winning smash hit if it’s got a half-decent score.

Enjoy.

*Oh. Unless a game of that thing comes out. I’ll 100% give it a go, so I guess you’ve got my money there, you cheeky marketing rascals!
**Or better yet, make something brand new.

A 3D rendering of my old studio I built in Blender a few years ago. And speaking of hanging onto old things. I don’t need a Trap Door reboot any time soon. That shit was perfect.
